Summer is right around the corner and our family bucket list is getting longer and longer by the day! Spending time together outside is my favorite way to spend those long hot sunny days. Hikes, water parks, and our annual summer road trip to the lake are at the tippity top of our list! I can’t wait to start adventuring with my crew! I look forward to our family road trip every single summer. As messy and as loud as they are, road trippin with my crew holds some of my all time favorite memories!
My kids are big time snackers. Who am I kidding, I’m a big time snacker too. I never leave the house without a snack box. When we road trip I build a snack box big enough to last the entire drive there and restock it on the way back. It ensures they are eating quality whole foods (with a few treats) and keeps us out of the drive through, which saves us money and greasy finger marks all over my car windows!
One trip to Kroger to snag all of our favorites and we are set! I love all of the Simple Truth organic options they have been introducing recently and their produce is beautiful!
I like to mix it up from time to time, but here is a general list of what I pack in our road trip snack boxes. Feel free to customize to your families dietary needs and preferences.
Road trip nack box essentials:
- Honest Kids juice boxes
- Vermont beef sticks
- dried fruit
- pretzels
- nuts & seeds
- Kroger classic trail mix
- goldfish cheese crackers
- Simple Truth seaweed snacks
- fig bars
- raisins
I also keep a cooler in the back seat with fresh fruits and veggies to balance out all the snacks! I always freeze water bottles in a advance to use as ice packs. They stay cold for most of the trip and when they do thaw out, we have an ice cold water to wash down all the snacks, all while saving a little room!
Pre portioned dips and snack pouches are lifesavers for road trips. I don’t like to pre cut our fruits, whole fruits last longer in the car and make for easy clean up. Lots and lots of sliced and pre cut veggies. We love protein snack bars and powerballs too. Heres our go to list.
Cooler staples:
- fresh whole fruits (apples, bananas, cuties etc)
- pre-chopped veggies (carrots, cucumbers bell peppers, celery etc)
- Simple Truth hummus
- ranch cups
- powerballs
- Simple Truth applesauce
- Simple Truth cheese sticks
- frozen water bottles
I always have a fully stocked first aid kit for the summer in my trunk. Whether we are road trippin to the lake or playing at the park it ALWAYS comes in handy. I’ve had so many moms thank me for having it on hand in a pinch!
First Aid kit
- pedialyte powder mix-ins
- Kroger sunblock stick
- Kroger sunblock spray
- Simple Truth silver wound spray
- Simple Truth silver wound gel
- iodine
- anti bacterial ointment
- hand sanitizer
- Acetaminophen (adult and children)
- Ibuprohpen (adult and children)
- bandaids (all sizes)
- alcohol wipes
- antibacterial hand wipes
- gauze pads
- tape
- Kroger antacid chews
- sunburn relief spray
I picked all of this up at my local Kroger store. The pharmacists there are so helpful with OTC needs. They even took the time to step away from behind the counter and help me find everything I needed to properly stock my kit!

LOL, I know everyone has been asking about those awesome containers, and I know you said you got them on Amazon… could you pretty please let me know the brand? I can’t tell in that first pic if it’s Sterilite, or if it’s a specific-to-lunches Bento style box. Thank you!
Ashley
Do you have a link for those snack boxes? I saw you said amazon but I can’t find it!

I also keep paper towels and wet wipes and towels too. Just in case we have a storm come up and in the South it can happen in a second.
Your ideas are great!
